generally i don’t read literature - i read books. i abhor the classics, relegating my reading to 20th century authors. vonnegut, bradbury, adams, asimov, buckley & moore (christophers), and friedman (kinky not thomas). so, 2666 is a bit of a departure for me in the literary(ness) department. this was a good decision. what bolano does in introducing the main characters is akin to the frantic way that we meet the main players of a quentin terantino or guy ritchie flick - and this is a comfort to me. because amongst the verbosity and pages-long sentences and abstraction is a classic for the 21st century. i am so excited by what is to come.
